Finding workwear that actually fits women shouldn't be complicated. That's why we created this guide. Here at DFR, our overalls are designed by women, for women, and we're here to help you find the pair that's right for you. Whether you're riding, doing barn chores, or need some professional looking workwear, we'll walk you through sizing, inseam lengths, fit, and the differences between our Quick Dry, Canvas, and Insulated styles so you can shop with confidence.

How to Measure Yourself

To measure yourself, start with your waist, thigh and hips. Keep the tape measure snug but not tight. For overalls, your waist measurement is often the most critical factor, so ensure you measure at the widest part of your torso.

Waist

Measure around the narrowest part of your natural waistline, keeping the tape level all the way around.

Hip

Measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat while standing naturally.

Thigh

Measure around the fullest part of your upper thigh for the most comfortable fit through the leg.

💡 Pro tip: Always measure over the base layer you plan to wear most often under your overalls. If you layer up in winter, measure with a hoodie on, you'll thank yourself later!

Finding the Right Fit?

The right fit often comes down to personal preference and how you plan to wear your overalls.

Some women prefer a more fitted feel through the waist and hips, while others like a little extra room for layering and freedom of movement. Neither is wrong! The best fit is the one that feels the most comfortable to you!

Prefer a More Fitted Feel?

If you like a more tailored look, your overalls should sit comfortably through the waist and hips without feeling restrictive. You should still be able to squat, bend, and ride comfortably, but with a fit that feels a little closer to the body.

Prefer More Room?

Some women choose a roomier fit, especially if they plan to layer underneath during colder months. A little extra room can make a big difference when you're wearing hoodies, thermal layers, or heavier clothing while working or riding in the winter.

Finding Your Sweet Spot

No matter which fit you prefer, your overalls should allow you to move comfortably throughout the day. You shouldn't feel pulling across the hips, strain on the straps, or restriction when sitting in the saddle. At the same time, they shouldn't feel so oversized that excess fabric gets in the way while you're working.

Compare Our Styles

Not sure which pair is right for you? Every style is designed for women, but each one is built for a different purpose. Whether you're looking for something lightweight for summer chores, durable enough for riding, or perfect for year-round wear, here's a breakdown of each style to help you find your perfect fit.

Women's Quick Dry Overalls

If you've ever wished your barn clothes felt a little more like your favourite leggings, these are for you.

Our Quick Dry Overalls are made from a lightweight nylon-spandex fabric that feels like Lululemon for the barn. They're breathable, stretchy, water-resistant, hair-repellent, and designed to keep you comfortable during long days of chores, grooming, or working around the farm.

One of the biggest advantages of this style is the comfort. The fabric moves with you, and the open-back design provides extra airflow during warmer weather, making them a favourite for spring and summer.

While they're perfect for barn chores, grooming, dairy work, livestock care, and other agricultural jobs, this isn't the style we recommend for riding. The lightweight fabric simply isn't designed for the wear and tear of time in the saddle.

If comfort is your top priority and you're looking for a warm-weather overall you'll reach for day after day, the Quick Dry Overalls are hard to beat.

Women's Unlined Canvas Overalls

If you're looking for a pair of overalls that can do a little bit of everything, this is the style we recommend most often.

Made from durable 16 oz canvas, our Unlined Canvas Overalls are built for work while still being designed specifically for women. They're fitted to highlight your waist while allowing room through the hips, with seams in all the right places for comfort and movement throughout the day.

Unlike our Quick Dry styles, the canvas fabric offers more structure and durability, making it a great choice for everyday farm work, ranch life, and time spent in the saddle. The unlined design makes them a versatile, year-round option that can be worn on their own in warmer weather or layered during cooler months.

Features like our reinforced crotch gusset, functional pockets, and signature two-tone colour combinations are designed with both practicality and style in mind.

If riding is part of your daily routine, these are the overalls we'd recommend. The durable canvas fabric stands up well to life in the saddle while providing the comfort and mobility needed for long days in the barn, on the farm, or out on the trail.

Women's Insulated Overalls

Cold weather doesn't mean your riding goals have to wait.

Our Insulated Overalls are built from a lightweight nylon-spandex fabric that feels like Lululemon for the barn. They're breathable, stretchy, water-resistant, hair-repellent, and designed to keep you comfortable during long days of chores, grooming, or working around the farm.

Designed specifically for women, they're fitted to highlight your waist while allowing room through the hips, with seams in all the right places for comfort and movement. The insulation keeps you warm without feeling overly bulky, so you can still move freely whether you're working around the farm or climbing into the saddle.

For riders, details matter. That's why we offer longer inseam options and zippered leg styles, making it easier to wear your overalls comfortably with your favourite riding or winter boots.

If you spend your winters outdoors, these are the overalls you'll be glad you grabbed on the way out the door.

Inseam Lengths

We offer a variety of inseam lengths (28", 30", 33", and 35") to accommodate different heights, so you can choose a length that feels comfortable. To find your inseam, measure from the crotch seam to the bottom of your ankle.

Tip: if you wear insulated mucking boots or some cute cowboy boots we offer a zippered leg option in our Insulated canvas styles!

Common Sizing Questions

Should I size up for layering?

Consider how you plan to wear your overalls. If you intend to wear heavy hoodies or sweaters underneath your overalls, we recommend sizing up. For those who prefer a slimmer fit with just a base layer or t-shirt, sticking to your true measured size will provide a more tailored fit.

We recommend trying on your overalls with the layers you'd normally wear underneath to ensure the best fit. Take a few minutes to sit, squat, bend, and move around in them so you can feel confident they're comfortable.

How should overalls fit?

Your overalls should feel comfortable, functional, and easy to move in without feeling too tight or restrictive.

What if I'm between sizes?

If you're between sizes, we usually recommend sizing up for a more comfortable fit, especially if you plan on layering underneath during cooler seasons. Choosing the larger size can also provide extra room for movement while working or riding.

For a more formfitting option with lightweight layers, some customers prefer their true size. If you're unsure, compare your measurements to our size chart or reach out to us for help!

Overalls FAQ

Are your overalls good for riding?

Yes! Our Unlined Canvas and Insulated Overalls are both designed with riding in mind. They feature durable fabric, functional pockets, and inseam options that make them comfortable in the saddle.

Do you offer different inseam lengths?

Yes, we offer multiple inseam lengths so you can choose what fits your height and riding needs best. We also offer zippered leg options on our Insulated styles for easier wear over boots.

What is your exchange policy?

Unworn items with tags intact may be exchanged for a different size or returned for a full refund within 30 days of purchase. Items with visible wear will not be eligible to an exchange or refund. Please try on overalls in a clean environment to ensure they will be eligible for an exchange or refund.

How do I care for and wash my overalls?

For our Canvas and Insulated Overalls, we recommend washing cold and hanging to dry to help maintain the colour and extend the life of the fabric. That said, they are pre-shrunk, so if they do end up in the dryer, they'll still be just fine!

For our Quick Dry Overalls, they're as easy as the name suggests. A quick wash and hang dry is all it takes! They dry fast and are ready to get back to work in no time!
